Spectrum is the public-facing name used for the operator of playspectrumdaily.com. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to privacy@playspectrumdaily.com.

Information kept in your browser

Spectrum uses browser local storage to keep the current daily puzzle state, a random browser identifier, your optional leaderboard nickname, and local statistics such as streak, games played and perfect results. This restores your game after a refresh and helps prevent accidental replay of the same daily puzzle.

You can remove this information through the Privacy and local data controls. Clearing it creates a new anonymous browser identity and resets local progress and statistics.

Daily play counts

When a puzzle is started, Spectrum records the UTC puzzle date and a date-specific one-way hash derived from the random browser identifier. This is used to count one start per browser per day. The application does not store the raw browser identifier or use this daily hash to follow play activity across different days. Daily start records are automatically removed after approximately 90 days.

Optional leaderboard submissions

A score is sent only when you choose to submit it. Spectrum stores the puzzle date, a one-way hash of the random browser identifier, your public nickname, the server-recalculated score, solve and perfect status, guesses, moves, elapsed time and final RGB values.

The stable hashed identifier is used to keep one best score per browser per day and to total that browser’s submitted results for the all-time leaderboard. Nicknames and leaderboard results are public. The service does not require your real name, account or email address.

Name moderation

Submitted nicknames are checked automatically for profanity, discriminatory language, impersonation of Spectrum staff and website addresses. Filtering is imperfect. Report an unsuitable name to privacy@playspectrumdaily.com.

Analytics, security and service providers

The site is hosted using Cloudflare Pages, Pages Functions and D1. Cloudflare processes ordinary technical request information needed to deliver and protect the service. Cloudflare Turnstile may process browser, device and network signals to prevent automated leaderboard abuse.

Cloudflare Web Analytics may be used to measure aggregate traffic. It is designed to operate without cookies, local storage or cross-site user tracking. Spectrum does not currently use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or advertising cookies.

Cookies and similar storage

The current game does not set advertising cookies. It uses local storage for the game functions described above. Because no optional advertising or behavioural tracking storage is currently used, Spectrum does not display a cookie-consent banner. This may change if advertising or other optional tracking is introduced.

Retention and deletion

Daily start records are kept for approximately 90 days. Submitted scores and derived all-time totals are retained while the public leaderboards operate, unless an entry is removed earlier. Local browser information remains until you clear it.

To request removal of a leaderboard nickname or score, email privacy@playspectrumdaily.com with the nickname and approximate puzzle date. We may ask for additional information to locate the entry, but the service may not always be able to verify ownership because it does not require accounts.

Your choices and rights

You can play without submitting a leaderboard score. You can clear locally stored information at any time. Depending on applicable data-protection law, you may also have rights to ask for access, correction, restriction, objection or deletion of personal information, and to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
